The '08 Vegas is a high de-power C-design tuned for direct bar-feel and constant power to give you confidence when loading up, unhooking and throwing powered tricks and jumps. Smooth, reactive steering gives the kite a very lively and crisp feel and also makes the Vegas perfect for kite-loops. 5th Element safety lets you go for glory with peace of mind while the Vegas' quick, easy re-launch gets you back up and riding hassle-free after a wipe-out.

Kite Technology - as described by North Kiteboarding

Canopy and Seam Reinforcement
The original North Rhino led the way toward the correct use of proper materials in kite construction. Nowadays, many materials and processing technoligies such as the use of Dacron polyester tissues in a segmented leading edge have become the standard in high-quality kites. We have continued the tradition by reinforcing the canopy only in key areas to avoid unnecessary weight. Nevertheless, our new kites are now more resistant to damage from crashes and abuse and the panels are easier to replace, which simplifies repair work. Key reinforcements can be found along the leading edge and between the ribs and canopy.

Ballistic Snakeskiin
Since all kites are also for experts, its tips and trailing edge are reinforced with our Ballistic Snakeskin for extra performance. Ballistic Snakeskin is twice as tear proof as conventional material.

Cam Battens
Also for the 2008 North Kiteboarding kite-range we do not want to miss the CamBattens. The revolutionary and patent-pending CamBattens improve the stability of the canopy and reduce the drag of the kite. The CamBattens allow to go with a deeper profile and make the kites more powerful. Also the deeper canopy combined with a round entry profile gives better stall resistance, which yields not only better low end power, but also better hangtime. CamBattens also give the kite much better upwind abilities and work towards very good stability in the sky.

Kook-Proof Connectors
These connectors prevent the number one cause of kite accidents by ensuring that front lines cannot be attached to the back of the kite and the back lines cannot be attached to the front of the kite.

Self Rescue Handles
These loops attached to the inside of the wingtips make it easier to hold the kite for bodydrag rescue.

Self-Closing Drainage Valves
NKB Deflator Pin
The low-drag ribs require a high inflation pressure, thus all valves at the chambers are self closing. Thanks to the worked-in drainage functionality, the air can be let out within a few seconds.

Batten Pockets
The pockets are built of stick-back ensignia cloth lining the canopy surface where battens are located. This combines with heavy, abrasion-resistant nylon fabric on surfaces that come between the batten and the sources of abrasion damage, such as hard sand beaches.

Materials

Canopy
In order to produce a lightweight and durable kite, North uses T9 polyester ripstop for the canopy. This material does not absorb any water and is coated with UV-protection on both sides.

Bladders
Our UV-obstructing polyester polyurethane bladders proved to be very reliable and are now also equipped with return valves at the small transversal tubes.

Ballistic Snakeskin
This material fulfils two funcions:

It adds protection and increases durability

It strengthens and stiffens the profile. Snakeskin is made of 2.1oz ripstop, which is twice as strong as conventional canopy material.

Dacron Leading Edge and Ribs
All areas exposed to peak stresses are made of top-quality 170g or 175g Dacron. This material helps achieve maximum tear strength in combination with conventional kite materials and will never delaminate.

New Features

Aramid Reinforced
New for 2008 are the Aramid Reinforcements, added in highly exposed arease such as the Micro Batten pockets and the leading edge scuff pads. These reinforcements reduce wear from everyday use and increase the durability and life length of your kite.

Power Profile
Improved low end is the main benefit of our "Power profile". This profile has a more draft back and deeper profile, in combination with a tightened cone in the trailing edge. The result is a more powerful kite with enhanced low end and better hangtime, but with the same good high end.

Load Distribution Panels
Due to more powerful kite profiles the canopy has to carry higher loads, resulting in a distorted profile and loss of efficiency. The load distribution panels spread the load from the lines to a wider area, keeping the profile smooth and distinct and allowing the kite to perform with maximum efficiency at all times.

Anti Snag Concept
Helps to prevent the lines from snagging on the kite.
